The Show Must Go On: 2021 Grammys

Semi-virtual, semi-controversial and entirely entertaining, the 2021 Grammys were held on March 14th. Below are some of the highlights from the award ceremony. 

 

Record of the Year: Billie Eilish – “everything i wanted”

Album of the Year: Taylor Swift – “Folklore”

Song of the Year: H.E.R – “I Can’t Breathe”

Producer of the Year: David Frost

Best New Artist: Megan Thee Stallion

 

Billie Eilish started off the 2021 Grammys with being awarded the first Grammy of the night, Record of the Year. Megan Thee Stallion was awarded Best New Artist of the year. Her song “Big Ole Freak” was the song that put her on the charts. Her song was on the Billboard Hot 100.

 

Best Pop Vocal Album: Dua Lipa – “Future Nostalgia”

Best Alternative Music Album: Fiona Apple – “Fetch the Bolt Cutters”

Best R&B Album: John Legend – “Bigger Love”

Best Country Album: Miranda Lambert – “Wildcard”

Best Global Music Album: Burna Boy – “Twice as Tall”

Best Contemporary Christian Music Album: Kanye West – “Jesus is King”

 

Dua Lipa started her music career on YouTube where she posted covers of other songs. In December 2016, she was signed by Warner Music Group, she then released her first single.

 

Best Rap Performance: Megan Thee Stallion – “Savage”

Best R&B Performance: Beyonce – “Black Parade”

Best New Pop Performance: Harry Styles – “Watermelon Sugar”

Best Country Duo: Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber – “10,000 Hours”

Best Pop Duo: Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande – “Rain on Me”

 

Megan Thee Stallion gained fame shortly after releasing her music out into the world. Her songs gained traction on the social media app called TikTok, as well as other social media platforms: YouTube and Instagram.

 

Best Song Written for Visual Media: Billie Eilish – “No Time to Die (From No Time to Die)

Best Remixed Recording: Imanbek Zeikenov, remixer (SAINt JHN) – “Roses (Imanbek Remix)”

Best Music Video: Beyoncé, Saint Jhn & Wizkid Featuring Blue Ivy Carter – “Brown Skin Girl”
