SUPER MARIO BROS.

POSTED November 14, 2022

“It’s-a me, Mario!” Calling all Mario fans! It’s finally here, another Mario movie! How long has it been since we had one? 30 years! A lot of people know Mario as a Nintendo video game, but over the years it was more than a game, due to Mario having attempts at being a movie and a TV series. Now this is another attempt, a new animated movie which has a scheduled release on April 7th, 2023. Chris Pratt will be playing the role as Mario, with Charlie Day as Luigi, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and finally Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. These are some of the characters announced right now, but we will see more characters in the future as April approaches. Now let’s think about this question, Jack Black as Browser? YES!

As I said earlier, there have been many attempts for Mario to come to life. It has been going on for the past 33 years! Sadly, most of them have gotten really low scores and poor reviews. At least they have kept trying, and let’s hope that this new one will save the Mario movie/show disasters. Now, let’s list off a couple of the movies and shows that were released. “Here we go!”

The first on our list is “Super Mario Bros. Super Show!” This series is about Mario and Luigi going through a Warp Zone and trying to save Princess Peach and Toad. They are also defending Mushroom Kingdom from their main enemy, Browser. This series received a rating of 6.2/10 on IMDb.

Next on the list is “Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!” This was originally a Japanese animated film and was never released in the U.S. but you are able to watch it on Youtube. It was released a year after the first Mario game came out and this short film is about Mario playing his video game in his home, and oddly enough, the video game he is playing has Princess Peach running away from the main enemy Browser. Princess Peach comes to life and comes out of the television into Mario’s world. Mario then has to go to her world to save the people that have been turned into objects from Browser. Mario also has to save Princess Peach from marrying Browser on Friday the 13th! Odd movie, but it sounds really interesting.

The third one we have here is, “The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros 3.” This is based on the “Super Mario Bros 3″ video game. A lot of these movies and shows are about the same, this show is also about Mario defending Mushroom Kingdom from Browser and he is also trying to save Princess Peach and Toad. The plot is the same but there are differences with this show and the videogame, The Koopalings’ names and designs are different from the game. That is because the Japan release of “Super Mario Bros. 3,” the Koopalings did not have names. As “The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3″ was in production, the Koopalings were given names to match their personalities. The Airship is called the Doomship and is the only one in the entire series. Kuribo’s Shoe is called Karoobi’s Shoe. This is a good idea so then there isn’t any repetition between the video game and show. This got a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb.

Fourth on the list we have “Super Mario World.” This was the third and final cartoon based on the “Super Mario Bros.” video game! With its first episode aired on September 14, 1991 and having its final episode released on December 7th, 1991. The series comes back with the original team: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and a new character, Yoshi! As they are traveling around Dinosaur Land and trying to defend it against Browser, again! This got a 6.7/10 on IMDb.

Lastly, we have “Super Mario Bros. The Movie.” This is probably the most remembered movie because of it being the first live action Super Mario Bros movie. I personally have not seen it, but it does look interesting. But that’s not what the ratings say. It received a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, 29% on Audience Score, and 4.1/10 on IMDb. Even the actors that played Mario and Luigi had a tough time making this movie. “Mamma mia!” This movie is about Mario and Luigi discovering a dinosaur world, where they battle with the evil Browser, help save Princess Peach, and save mankind.

Let’s remember that Mario wasn’t originally a movie or show. The movies and shows could have affected the character, but it was mainly famous because of the videogame. Let’s see the list of Mario’s history:

  • 1981- Mario first appeared in the famous “Donkey Kong” arcade game.
  • 1983- “Mario Bros” was the first Mario arcade game.
  • 1985- “Super Mario Bros.” was the first Mario game that Nintendo released for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
  • 1988- “Super Mario Bros.2”
  • 1988- “Super Mario Bros .3”
  • 1990- “Super Mario World”
  • 1996- “Super Mario 64”
  • 2006- “New Super Mario Bros.
  • 2008- “Super Smash Bros. Brawl”
  • 2008- “Mario Kart Wii”
  • 2012- “New Super Mario Bros. 2”
  • April 7th 2023- Scheduled release for the new “Super Mario. Bros” animated movie.

Well, there is still a couple months left until the movie is released, so grab your go-karts, grab some popcorn, rewatch the old Mario classics, and be ready for another Super Mario Bros adventure! “Wahoo!”
