On April 24th, 2024, an 8th-grade boy was taking the bus home when his bus driver lost consciousness while driving. Thanks to this young man’s quick thinking he took the wheel and parked the bus safely.
Acie Holland lll attends Glen Hills Middle School in Glendale, Wisconsin. While taking the bus home, he noticed that his bus driver looked “sick or tired”, then her head dropped. Holland said that he realized something was wrong when she continued to press the gas and missed a street on her usual route. When Holland went to check on her she was unresponsive and running into traffic. He didn’t waste a second moving her foot off the gas, safely parking the bus full of students, and then calling 911. Holland stated after the incident, “I wasn’t really scared, I was just trying to get the bus to stop,” according to CNN. Many were grateful and he received an award from the police department including recognition from the mayor. Young Acie said he walked away from this experience feeling more confident in chaos.
