Roosevelt Rough Riders are powering up this winter with Powerlifting! State sanctioned for girls, and as a club for boys, powerlifting is a winter sport that students can participate in to exercise, gain strength, and compete between November and March.
“Fitness is a place that so many people, and students, can connect in.” Said one of the boy’s captains, David Yusten Jr.
Ashley Bohnet, a captain on the girl’s team, seconds, “It creates a lot of new connections and helps us realize we are stronger than what we thought we were capable of.”

These strong connections proved true as the girl’s team competed on January 11th and the boy’s team on the 18th. Several athletes on both teams placed first in their weight classes, some putting up weights upwards of 400 and 500 pounds.
“We’re building strength, but we’re also building character, and we’re building community,” said David Yusten.
