Six dead in Bakersfield shooting

A man in Bakersfield, California, went on a killing spree at 5:30 p.m. on September 12th, killing five including his wife. While the police attempted to capture the man, he took his own life.

At a news conference a few hours after the shooting, Sheriff Donny Youngblood of Kern County, said, “Obviously there’s some type of situation that caused the husband to be extremely upset.” Sheriff Donny later stated, “We’re trying to find the connection, obviously these are not random shootings. I’m pretty comfortable there will be a connection between all these players.”

Police later stated, when approaching the shooter, that they were armed but did not fire their weapons. The shooter then turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger, making this Bakersfield kill count six in total.

“Six people lost their lives in a very short amount of time,” Sheriff Youngblood said. “This is the new normal.”

Since the shooting in Bakersfield, there has been yet another shooting in the same county/ five days after the initial shooting. A suspect, who is unknown, shot two men. They suffered minor to moderate injuries.
