The young Mexican actress, Maya Zapata, will give life to the deceased singer in the mini series “El Secreto de Selena” on Telemundo. “El Secreto de Selena” is based off of the book, written by Maria Celeste Arraras in 2017, titled “Selena’s Secret” in English, and “El Secreto de Selena” in Spanish. The book is mainly about Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla Perez and her “secret” as told by Yolanda Saldivar, her killer. The show’s release date is set for September 23, 2018, but as ordered by Selena’s family and the court system, the show is banned from airing in the US.

Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, took her anger about Maria Celeste Arraras onto Snapchat by saying, “Maria Celeste Arraras, your show is full of crap. Your show is full of lies. Your source for your book and your show, is the woman who cold-heartedly, murdered, my sister, and left her to die.”

Many of Selena’s fans took to the matter on social media by bashing the series to be. Maria Celeste Arraras wrote her apology in an open letter, but she said that the show will still be in production. Many fans have expressed their opinions, continuing to bash Maria Celeste Arraras for the series while others give her praise. Selena’s family, as well as many of Selena’s fans, have dismissed the series.
