POSTED December 19, 2022
On Tuesday, December 13, President Joe Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act regarding the protection of same-sex marriages and interracial marriages during a White House ceremony. The act will ensure that the US. Federal Government will recognize these marriages and will guarantee full benefits to the married couple. However, the bill will not require states to issue marriage licenses. It will also not be able to stop religious organizations from refusing to perform these marriages. Additionally, the US. Federal Government also isn’t required to protect polygamous marriages. “Today is a good day,” Biden said during the ceremony. “A day America takes a vital step toward equality, toward liberty and justice, not just for some, but for everyone.”
