2023 State of the Union Address

Cecelia Hillyer, Writer

On February 7th, President Joe Biden delivered the State of the Union address. The State of the Union address is usually delivered once a year from the president to the congress in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol building. Biden announced some of the US’s progress, like the unemployment rate being at 3.4 percent, the lowest it has been in 50 years. He also spoke on lowering healthcare costs and remedying the tax system. Biden stated that since he has become president, he has signed over 300 bipartisan laws. He received support in order to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This law will provide Americans everywhere with jobs, clean water, better roads and access to the internet.

Prior to 1934, the speech was delivered in December; however, since then it has been delivered in January or February. The goal of the speech is to speak up on important issues that Americans are facing. Traditionally, speeches conclude with the president offering ideas and support, as well as new laws and policies. The State of the Union address is important and can help Americans, which is why it is necessary.
