On Wednesday March 22, The Research Vessel Petrel tipped over on a dry dock in the Scottish capital Edinburgh due to high winds. As it was dislodged from its place the ship tipped to the side at a 45-degree angle. In total, 33 people were injured, 21 patients were transported to local hospitals and 12 were treated on scene. The Edinburgh Police said officers and other emergency services were at the incident and a spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Services stated that they had dispatched 12 ambulances, an air ambulance, three trauma teams, a special operations team, and three paramedics to respond as well as three transport vehicles. The 251-foot ship formerly owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and currently owned by the U.S Navy weighs 3,000 tons. The owner of the dry dock where the incident occurred is not commenting at this time.
