One of my friends is a big fan of the walking dead. They have watched all 11 seasons and have began watching watch spin offs. In this article, I will be referring to them as Superfan.
Super Fan rating and review
Character development 4/5
Superfan rates The Walking Dead show 4/5 for character development. They said that a lot of the changes in the characters development and personality throughout the show are well written and they develop into completely different people than they began in the first seasons. Super fan states “Two of my favorite characters who started off on season one with certain morals and things from their past hold them back, but by the end of the show, they have been through so much and lost so many people that they cared about and that they no longer have the same morals.” In the show, characters develop from their original, “humane” selves into survivalists that make their own rules in order to live and survive in the harsh environment. Superfan also says that the reason they give character development a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 is because some of the characters in the show that were introduced, develop into great and important characters, just to be killed off in a bad or careless way.
Graphics/Setting/Acting 5/5
“The graphics and setting are very realistic and keep the viewers intrigued and wanting to watch more.” Superfan rates it a full 5, saying that the show is realistic and characters’ reactions to the zombies, other characters’ deaths, etc, are well executed and believable, the actors act just as people would if the situation had really happened to them.
Predictability/pacing 5/5
Superfan quotes; “This show is extremely unpredictable and the pacing is done very well.” Superfan’s opinion on the show is straightforward when it comes to the show in length, especially for shows involving zombies and action scenes, having good predictability and pacing for the show is essential.
Audience rating and review; IMDB
From an IMDB rating of the walking dead, the show has been rated an overall 8.1/10 based on over 1 million ratings. Ratings spiked in the first couple seasons, and then increased again to the end of the show with seasons 9-11. Ratings decreased when referring back to seasons 7-8, several comments have stated that there is not as much action, or fighting with walkers (zombies) as much as the other seasons. Although ratings were still high, there was a visible decrease of ratings in seasons 7-8 compared to other favored seasons. When rating the whole show, over 1/3 of the votes were people rating a 10/10; and overall about 70% of ratings were rated 8 and up.
Professional rating and review
Based on the Walking Dead reviews and ratings from Rotten Tomatoes, the overall rating between all the critics rate the Walking Dead franchise at 79%. 389 critics rate “fresh”, or good; and 89 critics rate “rotten”. When it comes to top critics, however, they rate the show at 87%, with 97 critics saying fresh, and 14 critics rating rotten.
After concluding and reviewing both audience and professional reviews, as well as the Superfan review; I would rate the show an overall 4/5. This show is really well done when it comes to graphics and realism, character development takes some turns, but as does every show and/or movie. I agree with Superfans statement, I would not rate it a full 5/5 because of pacing and storytelling in seasons 7-8, and also I wouldn’t rate a full 5/5 because of killing off these well developed characters that fans become so attached to.
