If you are like many skygazers across the globe, you may have caught the recent nightly displays of The Northern Lights. However, you may also be wondering why this recent display was so unique and why it was visible to so many new areas of the globe?
The Northern Lights usually only appear by earth’s poles but were spotted as far down as Kansas due to a phenomenon called a “major face lift”. This is caused when the sun’s magnetic poles swap causing magnetic jankiness along the way. This only happens every 11 years or so. These lights also appeared in European countries including Hungary, The United Kingdom, and many more but were mainly seen in the northern hemisphere.
