Finland voted happiest country in the world for the sixth time in a row

Cecelia Hillyer, Writer

For the sixth time in a row, Finland has received the happiest country in the world award by the World Happiness Report. Since the pandemic, compassion has been more prominent in society and it is shown in recent studies. One of the authors of the World Happiness Report commented that, “Benevolence to others, especially the helping of strangers… went up dramatically in 2021, stayed high in 2022.” The report states that the citizens of Finland feel that they are free to make their own choices and with their community’s support they can strive towards happiness following the pandemic. Finland is considered the happiest country due to things like their low crime rate, universal health care, and their belief of a balanced work life. The information used to determine the Happiest Country in the World outcome comes from a famous public poll called the Gallup World Poll. It takes into account things like social support, GDP per capita, freedom, generosity and corruption. Finland’s neighboring countries (Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Norway) follow closely behind in the results of the report, apparently making Scandinavia one of the happiest regions in the world.
